TrueBlue’s PeopleReady brand paid daily workers every day via paper checks, requiring gross-to-net payroll processing each day. Workers typically visited the branch in the morning for assignments and returned after their shift to pick up pay. This created a major security risk for branches and employees and added significant operational effort. The company needed a safer, more efficient way to pay a daily workforce. The team implemented Wisely pay cards as a payment option integrated with an in-house system. At the end of each shift, clients entered workers’ hours and workers verified them, triggering pay processing that appeared in the myWisely app in seconds. The program supported virtual enrollment through a link, digital wallet use, and delivery of a personalized chip card to employees’ homes. This approach reduced reliance on paper checks and minimized post-shift branch visits for pay. The rollout reached approximately 94% adoption among PeopleReady employees using the pay card. Since going live in 2012, the program paid 1,307,871 employees on the pay card, funded cards with a total of $5.3B, and loaded cards 58,006,096 times due to daily payments. Workers no longer needed to come into branches post-shift to pick up paychecks, and branches reduced costs tied to check stock, printers and toner, and issues such as lost checks. The change also improved worker security by reducing the need to carry cash after cashing checks.

Spectrum Solutions
Spectrum Solutions needed additional staffing to meet a sudden surge in demand for COVID-19 test kits. Traditional swab testing created supply strain and required close contact, which increased PPE usage and risk to healthcare staff. Spectrum pivoted quickly to develop a saliva-based alternative while maintaining rigorous medical standards. The company had to scale operations rapidly and sustain round-the-clock production. Spectrum implemented a saliva-based COVID-19 testing kit approach based on its existing saliva-based DNA kit technology. It engaged an external staffing partner to provide rapid temporary workforce support and flexibility as demand shifted. Staffing support covered two production facilities, including clean-room roles as the final touch point before kits shipped globally. The team also used a staffing app to connect with workers quickly as needs changed. The saliva-based test was fast-tracked under FDA EUA and was developed in tandem with Rutgers University. Under medical supervision, the saliva collection could be self-administered, which reduced close contact and helped protect patients and staff while preserving PPE. The test could produce results in 24 hours, enabling faster turnaround than many alternatives at the time. With added staffing support, Spectrum sustained 24/7 production operations to meet elevated demand.
